A little piece of paradise on the shores of Lake d'Hossegor, the Hortensias du Lac (included in the “Châteaux et Hotels Collection”) welcomes you to its superb 30s-era building in the Basque-Landes region.
This charming hotel benefits from a privileged location between the Lake d'Hossegor and the beaches only 400 meters away, and is ideal for a quiet and serene break. The rooms, 25 in all, are highly varied: rather than offering the classic double room, this hotel provides a 12 m² balcony for every room, ideal for lounging, and also proposes duplex rooms, suites, apartments, and even a 210 m² villa.
You've guessed it–whether you're in a couple, with friends, or with family, this establishment will offer the accommodation that suits you best! Most rooms have a view of the lake and it's very pleasant to read on the balcony while enjoying the panorama. The rooms are all decorated in a classical style, with teakwood furniture and fabrics in chocolate and off-white tones, all of it lending an elegant atmosphere to the place. And the height of chic: the bathroom products are from Hermès.
The Perfect Pool for Leisure
But here's the best asset in this oasis of calm: a magnificent infinity pool with a spectacular view over the Lake d'Hossegor. Of course the pool is heated, a necessity when you get cold easily like me. This place is perfectly suited to relaxation, and you can kick back in one of the ultra-modern deckchairs placed around the pool.
Activities for More Entertainment
Among the many activities available, you can of course take advantage of the long stretches of the Atlantic coast only a stone's throw away. For more athletic guests, there are several golf courses nearby, and the hotel loans out bikes as well. I recommend taking a walk around the lake to stretch your legs and admire the hotel from afar.
A Gourmet Breakfast
After a restful night in my king-size bed, I head straight down to breakfast where I find many more pleasant surprises. I should first mention that this breakfast is served from 8 am to 12 pm. I hate having to hurry in the morning to enjoy my breakfast within the given hours, and unfortunately that's often the case. I bet I'm not the only one… breakfast at other hotels usually ends at 10 or 11, but here the late time is truly a blessing; you even have time to take a dip in the pool before going back to the dining room.
I've rarely had the opportunity to eat such a varied and high-quality breakfast–it's really more of a brunch. On the menu, there's Mariage Frères tea (and you know that I'm uncompromising on that point), fresh fruit juice, croissants, and some savory dishes. In terms of more original offerings, I'd mention the delicious house tabbouleh salad, fruit tarts, and compotes with unusual flavors. All of this is accompanied by one (or several) glasses of champagne! Everything you need to be in a good mood for the rest of the day!
When Are We Coming Back?!
It's already time to go, and I have to leave this hotel behind me! But I can't wait to come back! I think that this place is ideal for a getaway of a few days. Even if there's not much to do in the surrounding area, the activities proposed by the hotel and by the town of d'Hossegor will keep you busy for several days while you enjoy the tranquility of this little gem.
