Nestled in the preserved natural beauty of Hokkaido, Rusutsu is an idyllic destination that captivates with its breathtaking landscapes and peaceful atmosphere. Known for its snowy winters and lush green summers, this region offers an exceptional setting for outdoor enthusiasts and tranquility seekers. It is in this enchanting setting that the Noah Rusutsu villa is located, a modern residence blending Scandinavian design with Japanese influences. With its panoramic views and luxurious amenities, it promises visitors a unique experience, combining contemporary comfort with an immersion in nature.
Rusutsu: Powder Snow Winters and Verdant Summers
Located in southwest Hokkaido, near Niseko and about two hours from Sapporo, Rusutsu is a sought-after mountain destination for its magnificent landscapes and unspoiled nature. Surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and vast agricultural expanses, the region offers stunning views of Mount Yōtei, a majestic volcano nicknamed the 'Fuji of Hokkaido'. In winter, Rusutsu transforms into one of Japan's most renowned ski resorts, famous for its exceptional powder snow and 37 trails spread across three mountains. During the fairer seasons, outdoor activities take over with hiking, golf, and exploration of the surrounding landscapes.
Away from the hustle and bustle of Japan's major cities, Rusutsu also charms with its peaceful atmosphere and vast spaces, particularly spectacular in autumn when the forests are ablaze with vibrant colors. It is in this splendid setting, off the main road, that the Noah Rusutsu villa is found, offering visitors a haven of tranquility in harmony with Rusutsu's natural beauty, while being only a 5-minute drive from the Rusutsu Resort.
Between Modern Chalet and Scandinavian Design
Inaugurated in November 2025, Noah Rusutsu is a splendid contemporary two-level villa, nestled in a wooded and intimate environment. With its 183 square meters, it offers three bedrooms that can accommodate up to twelve people, showcasing a bright architecture largely open to the surrounding nature. This design allows for an immersive experience while enjoying modern and refined comfort. The villa's interior decoration is a symphony of natural wood, mineral gray, white, and deep blue. This combination of colors creates a warm and harmonious atmosphere, oscillating between a modern chalet and an architect's house. Inspired by contemporary Japanese style with Scandinavian and industrial influences, the interior evokes the Japandi spirit. Large windows and wooden ceilings accentuate this blend of warm materials and glass architecture, giving the villa a distinctive character.
The architectural design of the villa has been carefully considered to adapt to Hokkaido's harsh winters, where snow can reach a depth of 1.5 meters. To maximize views of the snowy landscape, the main living room has been cleverly placed on the second floor. The owner personally selected each piece of furniture and lighting, ensuring that every element integrates perfectly with the architecture, thus creating a welcoming and soothing atmosphere for guests. In the spacious living room, a low, deep mauve gray sofa softens the architectural lines and invites relaxation. The cushions, rug, and coffee tables with organic contours complete this harmonious space.
Omnipresent in the decor, from the ceilings to the exposed beams to the window frames, wood creates a visual continuity with the surrounding nature, reinforced by the large bay windows that flood the interior with natural light. At the other end of this vast living space, there is a small area with two armchairs and a table, perfect for settling in for tea or reading facing nature, while the terrace will be preferred during the summer season only.
The kitchen stands out with its masterful industrial touch. It is equipped with anthracite gray facades with a concrete effect, which elegantly contrast with the warm wooden ceiling. The central island, linear and visually solid, incorporates a large metal sink and the cooking area under a suspended black hood. Modern appliances, such as a large refrigerator, a wine cellar, a microwave, a branded rice cooker, and a Nespresso coffee machine, are carefully arranged to combine functionality and aesthetics. A Balmuda electric kettle and a blender complete the equipment, offering everything needed for a sophisticated culinary experience. Naturally, all necessary tableware, pans, and pots are available, making the kitchen perfectly equipped for long stays.
The dining room, which extends from the living room and kitchen, embodies Scandinavian simplicity. It is furnished with a large rectangular table surrounded by gray chairs with rounded backs, perfect for convivial meals. A large ribbed dome-shaped pendant light hangs over the table, creating a visual anchor point and adding a touch of intimacy to this open space.
Located on the ground floor, the three bedrooms offer a contemporary hotel ambiance with their deep blue walls that highlight the white linens and soft beige-pink accents. Each bedroom has two double beds, comfortably accommodating up to twelve people. The main bedroom, more spacious, features a small area with a round table and two chairs near the windows, as well as an ensuite bathroom for added privacy. These private spaces are designed to offer a soothing retreat after a day exploring the surroundings, ensuring a restful and luxurious stay.
The main bathroom and sauna add a touch of Japanese spa to the villa. The bathing area is equipped with light gray tiles and black fixtures, creating a sleek and almost architectural space. The wash stations, with their low stools, are inspired by traditional Japanese baths, offering an authentic relaxation experience. A bay window opens onto an outdoor covered area where a barrel-shaped sauna is located, adding a rustic and intimate dimension to the overall design. This wellness area is complemented by POLA skincare products, a ReFa hairdryer, and two types of hair irons from this prestigious brand, ensuring that guests enjoy optimal comfort. A washing machine is also available, making the villa ideal for extended stays.
The exterior environment of Noah Rusutsu is as enchanting as its interior. Nestled among tall conifers and slender-trunked trees, the villa benefits from a preserved natural setting that evokes the impression of a forest refuge. The roof overhangs and extended floors create sheltered areas at the foot of the facades, perfect for enjoying fresh air in any season. The ground, often covered with a thick layer of snow in winter, reinforces the feeling of isolation and tranquility, allowing visitors to fully rejuvenate in this exceptional natural setting. Additionally, to ensure maximum comfort, Noah Rusutsu offers ample parking for several cars, ensuring easy and convenient access for guests arriving with their vehicle, whether for a winter or summer getaway. Another asset for winter sports, a drying room for ski equipment is located at the entrance.
As winter arrives, the landscape transforms into a true postcard setting. The forests are adorned with a thick white mantle, the snow envelops the house, and the silence of nature becomes even more striking. Behind the immense bay windows, the spectacle of this pristine expanse promises a particularly magical and cozy atmosphere. Here are some photos that reveal all the charm of the house in the heart of the Japanese winter.

I loved:
- An exceptional setting in the heart of nature, while being just a 5-minute drive from Rusutsu Resort.
- A very successful contemporary design house, with meticulous decoration and immense bay windows offering a true immersion in the surrounding nature.
- A house perfectly equipped for long stays, with a complete kitchen, televisions with Chromecast, a washing machine, and many practical amenities.
I regretted:
- The lack of storage for clothes in the bedrooms: no dressing room, no dresser, no wardrobe, just a coat rack, which is not very practical for extended stays.
