As the first Ritz-Carlton address in China and once the largest hotel in the city, it stands as a true local institution, symbolizing Shanghai's dynamism and refinement. Just steps away, travelers can enjoy the lively atmosphere of Nanjing Road, stroll through Jing'an Park, or explore a diverse culinary scene.

Its contemporary design is enriched with subtle references to Shanghai's cultural heritage, creating an atmosphere where tradition and innovation interact. In the rooms and suites, motifs inspired by the Art Deco style of the 1920s — a key period when Shanghai was a crossroads of Eastern and Western influences — blend with clean lines and refined materials. Every detail, from fabric choices to wallpaper tones, is crafted to offer an experience that is elegant, warm, and deeply rooted in the city's identity.

The common spaces, such as the lounge inspired by the glamorous atmosphere of “Ye Shanghai,” extend this immersion into the city's historical splendor. Shades of jade and turquoise, highlighted with touches of bronze and gold, interact with a spectacular four-story ceiling and a glass façade that lets in generous light. The result is a lively yet timeless setting, where international travelers and local regulars meet in an ambiance of discreet refinement.

The Premier Suite: A Spacious and Refined Retreat

The rooms and suites at The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai embody understated elegance designed to offer comfort and serenity. Soft tones dominate: immaculate linens contrast with a chocolate-colored upholstered headboard, while light beige walls and golden curtains create a warm, cozy atmosphere. Each room is conceived as a calming retreat after the city's bustling energy. Cream marble bathrooms add a touch of sophistication, featuring a separate bathtub, shower, and Diptyque bath amenities for true moments of relaxation.

We stayed in a Premier Suite King, a generous space of around 79 m² with a separate living room, ideal for relaxing or working in an elegant setting. The suite offered wide views of the city, reinforcing the feeling of being at the heart of Shanghai while enjoying preserved tranquility. Thoughtful details, such as soft lighting, noble materials, and subtle contrasts, give the suite a contemporary yet welcoming atmosphere, making it especially pleasant to unwind after a day of exploring or business meetings.

One of the highlights of our stay was without doubt access to the Club Lounge, a true private sanctuary reserved for Club Level guests. From arrival, personalized check-in in a dedicated space sets the tone for a calm and attentive experience. Throughout the stay, the lounge becomes a privileged place to enjoy tailored services. The Club Lounge also offers five daily culinary moments, making every visit a gourmet pleasure: breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, evening hors d'oeuvres, and late-night digestifs. Set in a warm atmosphere with remarkable views from the upper floors, it provides an ideal setting to relax, work peacefully, or simply enjoy a moment out of time.

Dine, Savor, Connect: The Hotel's Culinary Venues

The hotel's culinary offerings are centered around several venues, each providing a distinct atmosphere and dining experience. The newly renovated Portman's highlights comforting cuisine reinterpreted with creativity. From morning to evening, the restaurant offers a refined selection blending continental and pan-Asian influences, served in a warm setting where attention to detail is reflected both in the dishes and in the service.

For a more intimate atmosphere, My Bar reveals itself as a cozy and mysterious space, where soft lighting, jazz notes, and classic film projections create a cinematic ambiance. It's the ideal venue to enjoy original cocktails and be carried away by a subtly intriguing atmosphere.

When the weather allows, Terrace 8 becomes a true urban oasis, offering a stunning view of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre. This sought-after terrace provides an outdoor experience ideal for afternoon tea in the sun or a glass of champagne paired with Mediterranean tapas at dusk. A convivial and elegant space, particularly appreciated for moments of relaxation.

Finally, The Ritz Bar & Lounge pays tribute to glamorous Shanghai of the 1920s and 1930s with its subtly blended Art Deco aesthetic and contemporary touches. Chic by day, it transforms into a lively bar in the evening, promising a vibrant and sophisticated atmosphere. An essential stop to savor a cocktail in a setting that celebrates the city's timeless spirit.

Between Energy and Relaxation

The hotel also offers a range of activities dedicated to wellness and relaxation. The fully equipped Health Center features state-of-the-art equipment, allowing guests to maintain their fitness routine in a pleasant, bright space. To unwind, guests can enjoy a large indoor pool, perfect for swimming or floating peacefully, as well as an elegant 25-meter outdoor terrace pool, ideal for sunbathing, refreshing dips, or starting the day with a few laps in a calm, refined environment.

The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai benefits from a privileged location on West Nanjing Road, at the heart of the dynamic Jing'an district. The property combines contemporary elegance with subtle Art Deco references. We stayed in a spacious Premier Suite with remarkable comfort and an open view of the city. Access to the Club Lounge was a true highlight: a peaceful space, attentive service, and a gourmet selection renewed throughout the day. A refined, welcoming address perfectly in tune with the energy and charm of Shanghai.
