The Kingdom has opened its doors with remarkable ambition. Riyadh's skyline now hosts international hotel brands along King Fahd Road and the emerging Diriyah Gate district, where restored mud-brick architecture meets contemporary design. Jeddah's Al-Balad quarter, a UNESCO site, provides the historic counterpoint — coral-stone merchant houses and traditional souks steps from the Corniche waterfront.
Along the Red Sea coast, resorts have begun to colonise previously untouched stretches of coastline, offering diving access to pristine reefs. AlUla, with its Nabataean tombs at Hegra, has emerged as the cultural flagship, drawing comparisons to Jordan's Petra. The dining scene reflects this rapid evolution: Arabic mezze and grilled meats remain foundational, but Riyadh and Jeddah now support serious international kitchens. Unlike neighbouring Bahrain or the established circuits of India, Saudi Arabia offers the particular appeal of a destination still being written.
