Belmond la Residencia: The Most Luxurious Hotel in Mallorca

A Small, Authentic Village

In the morning, we left the Park Hyatt Mallorca on the east coast of the island to head to the north coast, often considered to be the most beautiful. In the heart of the postcard-like village of Deià, located along one of the loveliest roads in Mallorca, we caught our first glimpse of the iconic Belmond establishment. This village has been a popular spot among artists and writers over the years, offering an enchanting setting between sea and mountains. To the north of the village, a small, concealed path led us up to the superb hillside hotel.

A Luxury Hotel Designed Like a Village

This five-star establishment includes two manors from the 16th and 17th centuries as well as a series of more recent buildings, all of them blending in perfectly with the local architecture. Thanks to its unusual configuration, the hotel is more like a village, and I was thrilled to wander about the little stone pathways and staircases. Situated in the heart of a 15-hectare olive tree plantation, the resort affords visitors an extraordinary view of Deià, the Tramuntana mountains, and the intense blue of the Mediterranean Sea nearby. 

Rooms and Suites with a Chic, Rustic Ambience

For our two-night stay, we were happy to settle into the Exclusive Suite of the hotel’s Tramuntana wing, a new addition dating back only two years. The Tramuntana wing is one of the best in the resort, as it offers a fabulous view of the surrounding countryside. The 90 m² Exclusive Suite features rustic décor, combining traditional materials with contemporary paintings. It’s super comfortable with its separate bedroom, living room, and elegant bathroom, but I was completely swept off my feet by the vacation atmosphere when I saw the gorgeous terrace and private pool! I curled up on my deckchair with a good book and took advantage of the beautiful, sunny afternoon!

Activities Galore!

It’s hard to run out of things to do at the Belmond La Residencia! In addition to two pools (one of which is adults-only), there are plenty of summery activities, such as a guided trip to the sea with swimming, snorkeling, and paddleboarding on the menu, perfect for taking advantage of Mallorca’s clear waters (though the sea was still a bit too cold for us to venture out when we were there!). Athletic types can opt for a hike in the mountains or make the most of the tennis courts, while couples can indulge in a Vespa ride across the island. As for families, the Kid’s Club offers a multitude of activities, and both children and grown-ups can enjoy a donkey ride along the “poets’ walk,” a path that runs through the olive tree orchard. 

When it comes to culture, the establishment offers art classes and workshops with resident artists. I loved going for walks around the estate and admiring the various sculptures in the garden and art gallery, as well as the numerous artworks distributed among the rooms and suites.  

A Spa Inspired by Local Architecture

The resort also includes a spa designed according to purest Majorcan tradition. Wooden doors, stone walls, natural colors – it’s the perfect setting for re-energizing yourself, perhaps alongside the heated indoor pool (ideal for our visit in April, with a temperature of only 18° C/ 64° F). There’s an outdoor jacuzzi amidst the olive trees, a steam bath, a sauna, and a fitness room to top off this haven of peace. The spa also includes six treatment cabins, three of which are outside on the terrace, but unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to test them! 

Time for Breakfast

In the morning, we headed to Son Fony restaurant for breakfast. The buffet includes local delicacies and typical Majorcan pastries, cold meats, cheeses, and international foods, as well as hot dishes prepared on demand. Delicious!

The Café Miro

At the Café Miro, named after the famous Spanish artist behind the 33 works adoring the restaurant walls, guests can enjoy light cuisine, afternoon tea, or tapas to accompany a few cocktails. We took advantage of the afternoon sunlight by having our lunch on the beautiful terrace facing the village!

El Olivo: The Gourmet Restaurant

First and foremost, El Olivo offers an enchanting and ultra-romantic setting: the former site of a 17th-century olive press, this charming restaurant features stone walls, immaculately adorned tables, and a subdued ambience. As one of the best gourmet dining options on the island, it proposes dishes that combine flavors from the Mediterranean and from further afield. 

We had the pleasure of tasting chef Guillermo Méndez’s cuisine for dinner. Served by an impeccable staff, Méndez’s dishes emphasize local products, such as the Soller gamba shrimp cooked in salt and served with olive oil from the estate, or indeed the rack of lamb with Majorcan cabbage and rosemary sauce. To enhance our foodie experience, we chose a bottle of wine to accompany our meal from a list of more than 400 references.

The Verdict

It’s no surprise that the Belmond La Residencia deserves its place on the podium of the best hotels in Mallorca. Its 74 rooms and suites feature understated comfort and luxury, ideal for a getaway to the seaside. In addition to being impressed by our gorgeous suite, I was blown away by all of the activities on offer! The Belmond La Residencia is definitely the perfect place for a relaxing, luxurious retreat on the beautiful island of Mallorca!

I loved:

• Ideal location in one of the most gorgeous parts of the island, in a picturesque little village
• Suite with private pool: an ultra-luxurious refuge where you can relax in peace and quiet!
• High-flying dining options: from breakfast to lunch at the Café Miro to dinner at the El Olivo, everything was excellent!

I disliked:

• The works of art in the rooms might not suit everyone’s tastes…
