Fuchsia Velvet, Modern Lines, And Natural Light

Le Grand Café Fauchon captivates from the very first moment with its bold aesthetics, at the crossroads of Parisian elegance and confident modernity. Designed by architect Richard Martinet in collaboration with Atelier Paluel-Marmont, the décor revolves around an iconic color palette: timeless black, luminous white, and vibrant fuchsia pink, the brand's signature. These tones are showcased with flair on velvet chairs, graphic carpets, and carefully selected decorative elements, creating a space that is both glamorous, refined, and resolutely contemporary. Large bay windows flood the room with natural light, while the central bar—truly a centerpiece—elegantly anchors the space.

Outside, the spacious terrace offers an unobstructed view of the Church of the Madeleine, making every meal feel like a living postcard of elegant Paris. This open-air space stands out as a prime location to take in the district's vibrant atmosphere while enjoying seasonal cuisine in a chic yet relaxed setting. More secluded, the Jardin des Thés, nestled beneath a light-filled glass roof, offers an intimate and refined setting, perfect for quiet moments or private events.

The Soul Of The Fauchon Brand On The Plate

Le Grand Café Fauchon is part of a culinary heritage that began in 1886 on Place de la Madeleine, the very spot where Auguste Fauchon opened his first gourmet grocery store. Today, the restaurant carries forward the spirit of boldness, elegance, and creativity that made the brand's reputation. More than just a dining venue, it represents a contemporary vision of French haute cuisine. The menu is conceived as a living tribute to the brand's culinary heritage: recipes evolve with the seasons, flavor combinations surprise with their finesse, and each dish celebrates both taste and visual appeal. True to its mission of awakening the senses, Le Grand Café Fauchon is also a space of cultural expression, where art, design, and gourmet events converge. At any hour of the day—be it for a refined breakfast, a quick lunch, an aperitif on the terrace, or a gourmet dinner—the experience is complete, living up to the reputation of this exceptional Parisian house.

Baptiste Limouzin, A Cuisine Balancing Heritage And Creativity

At the helm since March 2024, Chef Baptiste Limouzin represents a new generation of chefs who are both deeply rooted in the terroir and bearers of a resolutely contemporary vision of French gastronomy. A native Parisian with a heart in Charente, he trained under renowned chefs such as Hélène Darroze at The Connaught in London, Guillaume Goupil at Le Burgundy, and Julien Roucheteau, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, at La Scène Thélème and La Réserve de Beaulieu. These prestigious experiences shaped a culinary universe built on elegance, precision, and showcasing the product.

At Le Grand Café Fauchon, he puts his expertise at the service of refined and emotional cuisine, elevating the brand's iconic products through bold and harmonious creations. Particularly passionate about seafood, he enjoys revisiting traditional preparations with subtlety, such as tableside service of salt-crusted fish. Guided by simplicity, precision in flavor, and respect for French culinary heritage, Baptiste Limouzin crafts a menu that reflects his identity: sensitive, exacting, and deeply rooted in Fauchon's gourmet legacy.

A Sensory Journey Through Land, Sea, And Sweetness

We opted for the four-course tasting menu, paired with a glass of 2024 Whispering Angel rosé from Caves d'Esclans for me, and a glass of 2015 Domaine de Thalabert red from Paul Jaboulet Aîné for my husband. As an amuse-bouche, a beautifully plated oyster on a bed of crushed ice was served. It was delicately adorned with a play of textures and flavors: citrus pearls with orange highlights, pickled red onions, fresh herbs, mini aromatic leaves, and golden sesame seeds. A bite that was both vibrant and subtle, oscillating between briny freshness and tangy vegetal notes—perfect to awaken the palate.

The starter, named Terres de Gascogne, paid elegant tribute to southwestern France. White asparagus from the Landes, roasted to reveal their sweetness, were paired with thin slices of smoked duck breast—melting and delicately woody. A mango confit with Fauchon Sechuan pepper added a fruity and mildly spicy touch, balancing the dish with finesse. Light cream, puffed buckwheat, and young sprouts completed this graphic, well-balanced, and characterful plate.

We continued with Côte Atlantique, a dish bursting with marine freshness. The small-boat sea bass fillet, cooked to perfection, had a crispy golden skin, enhanced by a cereal crust and a few grains of caviar. It was set on a delicate celeriac mousseline—creamy and fragrant. Around it, an organic kiwi vierge from the Landes infused with Fauchon verbena brought an unexpected and welcome aromatic freshness, balancing controlled acidity with floral notes.

Next came Prairies Normandes, a dish with rustic richness. The pink-centered filet of Norman beef revealed tender, flavorful meat. It was accompanied by a bed of small spelt from the Cher, enriched with a creamy morel sauce with enveloping woody notes. A Fauchon black Malabar pepper sauce added depth and intensity, while confit shallots and fresh sprouts completed this plate, both rustic and sophisticated.

Finally, Vergers Azuréens ended the dinner on a fruity and summery note. The dessert combined an intensely flavorful strawberry sorbet with Gariguette strawberries from Provence and Mara des Bois jam from Fauchon. Small cubes of warm organic lemon cake from Nice added a zesty note, balanced by airy creams and the crunch of delicate lace tuiles. A finale full of freshness and finesse, showcasing the house's pastry savoir-faire.

My Opinion

Le Grand Café Fauchon offered me a gastronomic interlude as bold as it was refined. In this elegant and vibrant setting, each dish told me a story—between nods to terroir and contemporary creativity. Guided by Chef Baptiste Limouzin's sensitive vision, the cuisine won me over with its precision of flavors, finesse of pairings, and refined aesthetics. It was a true immersion into the demanding and gourmet universe of the Fauchon brand, leaving me with memories as delicious as they are lasting.
