With the bustling capital of Thailand welcoming more and more tourists every year, the St. Regis set up its first establishment in the country in 2011. Ideally located, the St. Regis attracts tourists in ever greater numbers thanks to its elegant rooms and chic restaurants. Its best feature is the superb view overlooking the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, a welcome green lung in this energetic city.
A Choice Location
2011 marked the arrival of the St. Regis in Thailand, when the group opened its first establishment in Bangkok. Ideally situated along the prestigious Rajadamri Road, it’s only a stone throw away from luxurious malls and restaurants as well as some trendy bars. The Skytrain, directly connected to the establishment, is a wonderful way to explore the city. In a tower with 47 floors (of which the St. Regis occupies the 12th to the 24th), we discovered an astonishingly spacious establishment, from the lobby where we arrived to the bar.
229 Fabulous Rooms and Suites
Facing either the city of the racetrack, the 176 rooms and 51 suites feature a contemporary design inspired by regional culture, all offering plenty of comfort for business travelers and tourists. The Grand Deluxe room where we stayed is perfect for a few nights: displaying beige and brown tones, the room’s cozy atmosphere is both sober and sophisticated. It also features a gorgeous view of the greenery below through its large picture windows, a welcome sight in this electric city. We also enjoyed fantastic service, with a concierge available 24/7 for guests in every room category – a real asset!
Elemis Spa: An Urban Spa with Relaxing Treatments
The St. Regis Bangkok spa is the first in Southeast Asia to feature products from Elemis. It offers an intimate space with elegant décor, bringing together a steam room, a jacuzzi, a refreshing pool, and an experience shower. Treatments are administered in one of 12 cabins (including two suites), ideal for taking luxury to the next level. Guests can also take advantage of the Turkish-style bath, recommended for eliminating toxins and softening skin, or try other treatments such as the “Garden of England Rose Restore” that I selected. Relaxation continues alongside the black granite outdoor pool, where tropical plants lend a bucolic style to the setting even though it’s up on the 15th floor.
Time for Drinks!
We began our evening at the St. Regis bar with its high ceilings and 15-meter marble countertop. Visitors can sit back and enjoy a “Siam Mary” cocktail, a reinterpretation of the Bloody Mary, or simply drink a glass of bubbly after the champagne-opening ceremony that occurs every evening at 6 p.m. sharp, as we did! For lovers of excellent wines, Decanter is the place to go with its selection of French, Italian, and New World wines, all in a classy atmosphere with wood paneled floors, thick carpets, leather sofas, and huge chandeliers. The wine list can make your head spin, and several tapas are on offer to complement your choice of drinks.
A Chic and Glamorous Evening at Jojo
We continued our culinary adventure at Jojo, a refined Italian restaurant which features the perfect combination of tradition and innovation. It’s a Slow Food concept, with fresh ingredients and a delicious, original menu. For lunch, more casual dining is on offer, with salads, appetizers, pasta, and pizza, while at dinnertime, the recipes become more sophisticated.
The setting is contemporary and glamorous, accompanied by a lovely wine cellar with great vintages to accompany the dishes served. The dinner menu includes delicious burratas, Canadian lobster linguine, lamb chops with thyme, and for dessert, Tiramisu Moderno – a tasty reinterpretation of Italy’s most famous dessert – to end on a high note!
Other Dining Options
There are two other restaurants here that I didn’t have the chance to test! Zuma is a sophisticated interpretation of the izakaya, with traditional ingredients brought together in modern recipes, reflecting the location’s décor. Another option is the VIU restaurant, which serves international cuisine along with a superb brunch on Sunday (very popular with locals). It’s also where the copious breakfast buffet is served, thrilling food lovers first thing in the morning. Western dishes as well as Asian-inspired foods delight guests from everywhere in the world.
The Verdict
The St. Regis Bangkok has everything a chic clientele looking to discover Thailand’s capital city could desire. Its elegant rooms and suites offer a soothing view of one of the city’s best parks, while the dining options are fantastic. Foodies will be delighted with the restaurants on offer, such as Jojo, one of the best Italian eateries in the city. Add to that the urban spa and the superb pool with a view, and you’re certain to enjoy a luxurious getaway!
I loved:
- The fabulous view of the racetrack
- The restaurant Jojo: with its delicious dishes and wine selection, you’d think you were in Italy!
- The breakfast buffet is excellent – high-quality, and with many Southeast Asian specialties
I disliked:
- There was not much ambiance at the bar when we were there…
