The Art of Luxury at Nobu Hotel Marrakech: Between Festivity and Elegant Refinement
The Nobu Hotel Marrakech is much more than just a luxury destination; it's a place where Japanese elegance meets Moroccan cultural richness in an exceptional setting. Nestled in the prestigious Hivernage district, this all-suite hotel embodies a unique lifestyle, seamlessly blending modernity with local traditions. Opened in 2023, it quickly established itself as a must-visit address for travelers seeking a sophisticated experience, while offering privileged access to the vibrant energy of Marrakech.
An Unmissable Address in the Coveted Hivernage District
Located in the heart of the prestigious Hivernage district, the Nobu Hotel Marrakech has settled in one of the most sought-after locations in the ochre city. Opened in January 2023, this all-suite hotel is part of the renowned Nobu hotel brand, co-founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper. Nestled in the 'Golden Triangle' of Marrakech, in close proximity to the vibrant medina, traditional souks, and the iconic Djemaa el-Fna Square, this 5-star hotel stands as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking luxury, modernity, and trendiness, while enjoying the lively nightlife of the district.
When Japan Meets Marrakech: Nobu and its Inimitable Style
The style of Nobu Hotel Marrakech embodies a subtle harmony between Moroccan heritage and contemporary Japanese aesthetics, a signature of the brand. The building's exterior, with its modern circular architecture, conceals an interior reminiscent of traditional riads, where green spaces and a bright atrium enhance the feeling of being in an intimate sanctuary.
Upon entering, a majestic bonsai stands at the center of the circular lobby, creating a calming focal point and evoking zen tranquility, while contrasting with the bustling streets of Marrakech outside. Moroccan influences are omnipresent through local artwork and handcrafted lighting fixtures, carefully integrated into a setting where every detail reflects the architectural heritage of the ochre city.
Nobu transformed the former property, dating back to 2010, by adding a splendid rooftop pool, a sophisticated bar, and a top-tier restaurant, while preserving the original hotel-spa identity, with a subterranean sanctuary remaining a key part of its offering. This astonishing blend of Japanese modernity and Oriental tradition gives the hotel a unique atmosphere, both serene and luxurious, making Nobu Marrakech an essential luxury hotel in Marrakech for 2024.
Harmony Between Oriental Luxury and Japanese Minimalism in the 71 Suites
The Nobu Hotel Marrakech houses 71 sumptuous suites, where elegance is expressed through a subtle fusion of Moroccan craftsmanship and Japanese refinement. The rooms, far from the usual minimalism of the brand, embrace local essence with dark wood wardrobes, deep shades of aubergine and merlot fabrics, and rustic tiles in the bathrooms. Wicker pendant lights, golden accents, and Asian frescoes further enhance this harmonious environment. The marble bathrooms, equipped with either showers or Italian-style bathtubs, add an extra touch of luxury.
Each suite, such as the 46 m² Junior Suite where we stayed, offers a comfortable seating area and a king-size bed or two twin beds, perfect for a serene and comfortable stay.
Gastronomy and Festive Atmosphere: Our Exceptional Evening at Nobu Marrakech
With a refined selection of restaurants, including the famous Nobu, this 5-star hotel is a true destination for haute cuisine enthusiasts. The day starts with breakfast at La Galerie, the hotel's rotunda restaurant, where an intimate yet perfectly curated buffet awaits. The Lobby Lounge offers an equally elegant alternative, serving gourmet breakfasts, light lunches, and dinners in a relaxed yet chic setting.
The Nobu restaurant offers an unforgettable gastronomic experience by combining the traditions of Japanese cuisine with the bold flavors of Peruvian cuisine. Nestled in an elegant and vibrant ambiance, this must-visit spot invites diners to discover iconic dishes crafted with authentic, sometimes local ingredients, to elevate each creation. The menu reflects Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's expertise, acquired during his years in Tokyo and through his travels, offering a unique and harmonious fusion of flavors.
We began our dinner with two creative and bold cocktails: a Japanese Margarita for him (Sake, Shochu, Chili, Triple Sec, Lime, Agave, Orange Bitter) and a Koen Martini for me (Wyborowa Vodka, Yuzu, Kiwi, Cucumber, Elderflower). Their subtle balance of exotic flavors set the perfect tone for the evening.
We then chose a selection of Nobu’s signature dishes while indulging in a few creations that particularly caught our attention. The parade of flavors began beautifully with Salmon Karashi Sumiso, followed by salmon nigiri and tuna maki, not forgetting the iconic Black Cod, tender and flavorful, reminiscent of authentic Japanese cuisine. The Angus beef fillet, served with a wasabi pepper sauce, was a true delight. As for the lamb dumplings with fruits, they perfectly embodied the fusion of local ingredients and the finesse of Japanese technique, offering a subtle marriage of textures and flavors that truly captivated us.
To crown this meal, the desserts, inspired by Japanese influences, provided a beautiful conclusion. We indulged in Nobu’s signature cheesecake, blending exquisite creaminess with the freshness of a wasabi sorbet and raspberry jelly, as well as a delicately tangy yuzu tart, accompanied by basil sorbet. As for the ambiance, we were charmed by the perfectly calibrated music: present enough to create a vibrant atmosphere while allowing for pleasant conversations. The lively and bustling room added to the energy of the place, while the dancers' performance, which entertained us during dessert, brought a festive and elegant touch, beautifully closing our evening.
Rooftop Garden: The Iconic Spot for Vibrant Evenings
The Rooftop Garden at Nobu Marrakech is one of the city’s most iconic spots, perched atop the hotel with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Atlas Mountains and Marrakech's historic landmarks, such as the medina walls and the Koutoubia Mosque. This open-air space is arranged around an elegant circular pool, surrounded by thatched cabanas, a dark wooden terrace, and a sophisticated indoor dining room. Guests can enjoy Mediterranean dishes and seasonal recipes or the sushi bar's creations for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. The bar offers creative cocktails and premium drinks, perfect for admiring the sunset from a lounge chair. In the evening, the Rooftop Garden transforms into a vibrant spot, akin to the best beach clubs, hosting international DJs and local artists for a festive atmosphere until dawn.
Serenity and Refinement at the Pearl Spa
The Pearl Spa is a true sanctuary of serenity, spanning over 2,000 m² and offering a sumptuous setting for an unparalleled wellness experience. With its 14 private treatment suites, a 25-meter indoor pool, and a private hammam with its own lounge, sauna, and jacuzzi, the spa offers total escape complemented by a fitness center. Nobu signature treatments draw inspiration from Japanese traditions, while traditional Moroccan treatments highlight local and international organic products.
I had the privilege of indulging in a signature The Pearl massage, a true invitation to serenity. This treatment, combining gentleness and precision, soothes the body while nurturing the mind. Warm aromatherapy oils are gently poured along the body, accompanied by carefully orchestrated stretching movements. This enveloping massage provides an absolute sense of well-being, leaving the mind calm and the body fully relaxed.
Luxurious Relaxation: Pool and 360° Panorama
For optimal relaxation, the heated pools, whether indoor or outdoor, offer an ideal setting. On the hotel’s rooftop, a true haven of peace awaits, with thatched canopies, wicker armchairs, and ceramic tiles in soothing emerald and turquoise tones. The pool allows guests to follow the sun all day long while enjoying a 360° view, an irresistible invitation to relax.
