In the heart of the bustling medina of Marrakech, behind the discreet walls of the Riad Le Farnatchi, lies a true gem of tranquility and refinement. This haven of peace offers an unforgettable experience to those who pass through its doors. With its 10 sumptuous suites, authentic cuisine, and soothing spa, Le Farnatchi stands out as an exceptional address for discovering Marrakech at its best. Here is a deep dive into this exceptional riad, where every detail is designed to offer a complete immersion in Moroccan charm and authenticity.
A Haven of Peace in the Heart of the Medina of Marrakech
The riad Le Farnatchi is nestled in the vibrant heart of the medina of Marrakech, just a few steps from the Madrassa Ben Youssef and the House of Photography, two jewels of Moroccan cultural heritage. Its location is perfect for a first immersion in the red city, with the famous Jemma El Fna square just a ten-minute walk away. Access to the riad is via the lively alleys of the medina, where the car drops you off nearby, leaving a short walk, accompanied by attentive porters. Behind a discreet wooden door, this luxury riad reveals a chic and spacious haven of peace, offering a welcome worthy of a five-star establishment, in stark contrast to the bustling exterior.
A Refuge of Refinement in Authentic Moroccan Style
Le Farnatchi embodies elegance and refinement, blending the timeless charm of a traditional Moroccan house with modern comfort. Created from several riads merged into one high-end establishment, it retains all the typical architectural features, such as its large central courtyard and authentic Moroccan touches.
In the first interior courtyard, comfortable lounge areas surround a tiled pool, offering a peaceful haven after the bustling streets outside. The 'B’hous,' open lounges facing the patio, allow guests to gather or enjoy a moment of tranquility. The second courtyard, equally serene, is distinguished by its finely carved wooden arches that contrast with the white walls, creating a harmonious and calming setting. The common areas, whether in the interior courtyards or on the rooftop terrace, are perfect for relaxing. On the roof, a stunning view of Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains invites you to enjoy a drink at sunset while being enchanted by the city's unique atmosphere.
10 Authentic Luxury Suites
The riad offers ten luxury suites, each unique in style and design, providing an authentic and refined experience. These suites, carefully designed, blend traditional Moroccan references with modern comfort. Most have sitting areas, and almost all feature a balcony or a private sunny terrace, offering guests personal outdoor space. The furniture, handmade especially for the riad, reflects a harmonious fusion of Moroccan tradition and contemporary European design. The interiors are a true masterpiece, with hand-sculpted plasterwork, Moroccan tiles, and pieces crafted by the finest local artisans. Guests also enjoy small touches, such as a djellaba and fez offered as gifts, to complete their cultural immersion.
We had the privilege of staying in the stunning Suite 3, which stands out for its breathtaking bathroom, featuring a black granite sunken tub that adds a final touch of refinement.
The suite also opens onto a beautiful terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast in a peaceful and sunny setting. The true luxury lies in the flexibility of the service: no time constraints, breakfast is served all morning at our convenience. After a simple call, it was on our table within 15 minutes. The menu featured a feast of Moroccan flavors with fresh orange juice, mint tea, eggs cooked to our liking, and of course, delicious mille holes pancakes and msemen, accompanied by Moroccan bread and a fresh fruit salad. A culinary experience that perfectly complemented the elegance of the suite.
Traditional Flavors and Chic Setting at Le Trou au Mur
During our dinner at the restaurant Le Trou au Mur, we had the pleasure of discovering authentic Moroccan dishes, often reserved for special occasions and rarely found in restaurants. The setting, both chic and relaxed, offers an intimate atmosphere, whether in the main dining room or on the stunning rooftop terrace. This restaurant, once a well-kept secret of the medina of Marrakech, now attracts an outside clientele drawn by its refined cuisine.
We started our meal with an assortment of Moroccan salads, including the famous pumpkin salad, a true favorite, accompanied by fresh Moroccan bread. For the main courses, we opted for carefully researched family recipes, such as lamb meshoui, incredibly tender and rich in local flavors, and a beef tangia, a typically Marrakchi dish. These dishes, rarely seen outside private homes, offered us a unique culinary experience.
To top off this delicious dinner, we enjoyed a fresh fruit pastilla, light and delicate, as well as homemade sorbets with exquisite apple & cognac and orange blossom flavors. This dessert, blending local flavors and lightness, perfectly concluded our evening at Trou au Mur, where Moroccan gastronomy is expressed in all its splendor.
Moroccan Traditions and Well-Being at the Farnatchi Spa
The spa is a true sanctuary of relaxation, designed with deep respect for local traditions, both in its architecture and the treatments offered. The private hammams, made of marble and featuring vaulted ceilings, offer a soothing experience in a sumptuous setting. Each treatment room, equipped with its own shower facilities, opens onto a beautiful glass-covered patio, creating an atmosphere of calm and serenity. Although we did not have the opportunity to try these treatments, the attention to detail and quality promises an exceptional spa experience.
My Opinion
My stay at Riad Le Farnatchi was a truly unique experience, where every moment was imbued with elegance, refinement, and authenticity. Nestled in the heart of the medina, this establishment manages to offer an oasis of calm in contrast to the bustling outside world. I particularly appreciated the meticulous attention to detail, whether in the suite's decoration, the quality of service, or the richness of the Moroccan flavors offered. Le Farnatchi perfectly embodies the discreet luxury and timeless charm of Marrakech, and I can only recommend this establishment to those seeking a total immersion in Moroccan culture and hospitality.
