Between visits to museums in the city of Florence, I treated myself to a sweet snack break at the Four Seasons and tried their Afternoon Tea. It’s barely 4:30 p.m. and there are a few raindrops falling on the Renaissance city, so it’s the perfect time to take refuge in this 5-star hotel.
A Splendid Palazzo
The Four Seasons is one of the city’s most fantastic hotels, and I’ve heard that it offers one of the best afternoon teas in Florence, so of course I can’t envisage staying here a few days without trying the delicious treats on offer. When I enter the establishment, I have to say that I’m enthralled by its beauty: you’d think you were in an authentic Italian palace with its beautiful statues, enormous frescoes, and the molding that decorates the courtyard walls.
4:30 pm: Time for Tea!
I head to the Atrium Bar and I sit down in a cozy room with a typically Florentine ambiance. The bar is gorgeous, made of wood and in a classical style, and fits in perfectly with the establishment. The majestic chandelier dresses up the huge room. Fine porcelain and silverware await the guests for our tea, and I’m impatient for the sweets to arrive.
Delicious Treats
As Italy is the capital of good coffee, I choose a cappuccino which is quickly served along with a few petit-fours, helping to tide me over until the moment of truth. I can feel my taste buds salivating when the multi-layer tray arrives. I start with several little sandwiches: these feature classic flavors and safe bets for this kind of occasion, such as salmon, cucumber and cream, and ham. More treats await me on the second layer, which includes a few macarons, a mango verrine, and a delicious chocolate tart: with a smooth texture and a thin, crispy crust, it’s truly a delight! And to end on a high note, there’s nothing like these famous scones, very popular on the other side of the channel, served with cream cheese and strawberry jam.
With my stomach full, I take a few moments to enjoy the luxurious environment of this jewel of Renaissance architecture. I had a wonderful time here, and while I didn’t get to try other afternoon teas in the city, I can confirm that this one was particularly excellent! The Four Seasons is the perfect place to relax in the late afternoon with a drink or pastry in the Tuscan capital.
