In early June, I had the pleasure of exploring the city of Berlin, where I set my sights on the famous Ritz-Carlton. Having recently undergone a superb 40 million euro renovation, this luxury establishment features an urban chic style as well as remarkable culinary experiences. Come explore with me!
Art Deco Immersion Experience
To maintain its position at the top of the Berlin hotel rankings, the Ritz-Carlton Berlin recently underwent an impressive renovation. Executed by G.A Design London, the transformation brought out the hotel’s glamorous side by emphasizing its Art Deco influences. Berlin’s Ritz-Carlton pays tribute to the Roaring Twenties, an opulent decade which changed the course of European history. From the moment I entered the lobby, I was enchanted by the baroque crystal chandeliers, majestic marble staircase, and Art Deco-inspired furniture. That said, the hotel’s atmosphere couldn’t be more contemporary. At the Ritz-Carlton Berlin, the Roaring Twenties blend seamlessly into the 2020s!
A Glamorous, Contemporary Atmosphere
The 303 rooms—including 40 suites and 1 apartment—are shining examples of modern luxury and optimal comfort for the 21st century traveler. In my Deluxe Room, I discovered a gorgeous contemporary interpretation of the Art Deco style: a white leather headboard, blue-toned carpets with geometric patterns, attractive furniture, a sleek walk-in closet and, to top it all off, a luxurious marble bathroom. A room as elegant as the hotel itself! In terms of home automation, the Ritz-Carlton offers a trendy user experience, with touchscreens to control the lights, heating, and more.
Culinary Innovation at POTS
Guests in search of reimagined German cuisine should head to POTS, a trendy restaurant where my husband and I shared several delicious dishes for dinner. I particularly loved POTS’ interior design, which is both well-made and convivial; diners can sit across from an open kitchen, giving them a view of the chefs in action. A number of copper pots, evocative of the large pots used to brew German beer, hang on the walls, brightening up the restaurant.
We sampled several German culinary classics, refashioned into contemporary recipes and beautifully presented, such as the “Baden-style” pork shoulder and the meatballs with Riesling sauce. For dessert, we opted for the bread pudding and a seasonal selection called “Yogurt.” Truly a delightful way to finish our meal!
An Original Concept at Fragrances Bar
After dinner, we crossed the lobby to check out Fragrances, a new hotspot in Berlin’s mixology scene! The cocktails are the star of the show thanks to Chef Heissen, a big name in the field, who has designed an incredibly original concept: a wall of fragrances that allows clients to choose their beverages based on scent. As someone who often feels lost when looking at an enormous cocktail menu, I found this approach both more fun and easier as it’s based on clients’ tastes rather than the ingredients.
In 2022, it was transformed into a new concept named Ishi by Henssler where you can indulge in fine Japanese cuisine, such as sushi and other specialties, in a superb setting.
The Curtain Club offers a different ambience, with Latin American-inspired flavors and a décor that combines Ritz-Carlton glamour with more exotic elements. Meanwhile, the cozily decorated Lounge is the perfect place to enjoy tea from the famous Mariage Frères brand.
The Verdict
The Ritz-Carlton Berlin is without a doubt one of the capital city’s trendiest and most stylish hotels. Its gorgeous renovation has been a total success, from the elegant rooms and suites to the chic, contemporary restaurants and bars. Innovative restaurants and bars such as POTS and Fragrances guarantee visitors an unforgettable culinary experience. Berlin’s Ritz-Carlton is the perfect pied-à-terre for esthetes looking to discover the city!
