Grand Hyatt Tokyo: A Refined Interlude in Modern Tokyo
Balancing contemporary elegance with a keen sense of detail, the Grand Hyatt Tokyo unfolds a hotel experience where design, gastronomy, and well-being intertwine in harmony. Nestled in the lively Roppongi district, it benefits from a dynamic environment while never losing its serenity, offering a perfect balance between urban vibrancy and refined comfort. From rooms designed as true sanctuaries to high-end restaurants, the hotel stands out with a complete offering that turns every stay into a privileged moment.
Roppongi, Between Culture, Shopping, and Entertainment
Located in the heart of Roppongi, one of Tokyo's most dynamic and cosmopolitan districts, the Grand Hyatt Tokyo enjoys a prime location directly connected to Roppongi Hills, a vast complex blending culture, leisure, shopping, and gastronomy. This prestigious address offers immediate access to hundreds of high-end shops and restaurants, a cinema, a renowned art museum, and an observatory with panoramic views of the city. Just three minutes on foot from Roppongi Station, the hotel makes it easy to reach iconic neighborhoods such as Ginza, Shibuya, or Aoyama, making it an ideal base for both business and leisure travelers. Although the district does not reflect a traditional Japanese atmosphere, it invites travelers to experience a vibrant urban lifestyle at the crossroads of fashion, culture, and Tokyo's energetic atmosphere.
Elegant Rooms for a Comfortable Stay
The 387 rooms and suites of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo stand out for their contemporary aesthetic inspired by Japanese design, combining natural woods, B&B Italia furniture, and warm earthy tones. Each space is conceived as a residential cocoon where refined materials and subtle lighting create a soothing atmosphere. The particularly spacious bathrooms reflect the codes of the Japanese bath: beige Rebecca limestone, deep bathtub, Dornbracht rain shower, and Balmai products for a true well-being experience.
The room we stayed in, featuring a king-size bed and Club access, perfectly illustrates this ambiance. With a surface area of 42 m², it offers an ideal balance between comfort and functionality. Its clean layout, warm woodwork, and soft fabrics create a welcoming space, while the Egyptian cotton bedding ensures high-quality rest. The large window wall opens onto Tokyo's rooftops, making the room bright and pleasant at any time of day.
Access to the Grand Club added an extra dimension to our stay. This exclusive lounge on the 10th floor offers breakfast, continuous refreshments, sunset cocktails, and the assistance of dedicated concierges. Featuring an outdoor terrace and a Japanese garden suspended above the city, it provides a peaceful refuge away from the urban bustle. This privileged space allows guests to enjoy relaxing moments and an even more personalized level of service.
A Full-Fledged Gastronomic Destination
The Grand Hyatt Tokyo gives a central place to gastronomy, and this is undoubtedly where the hotel expresses its full uniqueness. With one of the most extensive culinary offerings among the capital's high-end hotels, it proposes a true exploration of world flavors. The establishment alone houses about ten dining venues — each specialized in a specific theme — and succeeds in combining originality, authenticity, and excellence of service. From Italy to Japan, from China to contemporary Western cuisine, the hotel's diverse restaurants allow guests to embark on a true culinary journey without ever leaving the premises.
Among the signature venues, Fiorentina stands out with its modern Italian ambiance, where antipasti, pizzas, and pastas highlight seasonal ingredients. Located in the main lobby, the restaurant appeals as much for its menu as for its terrace overlooking Keyakizaka Street and its luxury boutiques. For lovers of Japanese cuisine, Roku Roku offers Edo-mae sushi and sashimi of great finesse, prepared from fish selected each morning at local markets. Its bright setting, featuring a long sushi counter, private rooms, and an outdoor terrace, makes it a popular spot for both lunch and dinner.
The hotel also hosts Chinaroom, a restaurant dedicated to Cantonese cuisine and regional Chinese specialties. Located on the 6th floor, it offers dim sum, seasonal menus, and several private rooms ideal for business or family meals. Meat lovers will find happiness at The Oak Door steakhouse, renowned for its open kitchen and exceptional cuts, including the F1 Tomahawk weighing up to 1.6 kg. Equally spectacular, Keyakizaka — the teppanyaki restaurant designed by Tony Chi — showcases a unique wagyu developed in collaboration with TakeuchiFarm, the only wagyu-producing farm in Tokyo. Raised in a stress-free environment and fed a “superfood” diet, the cattle produce remarkably tender meat that melts in the mouth.
To extend the evening, the jazz lounge Maduro is a must-visit. Hidden on the 4th floor, this sophisticated bar offers live concerts every night, a wide selection of whiskies, cigars, refined cocktails, and a VIP room. Its intimate ambiance and elegance make it one of the hotel's most sought-after nightlife spots. In the morning, The French Kitchen offers a completely different energy: its generous and lively breakfast buffet attracts both travelers and locals. For those with Grand Club access, breakfast can also be enjoyed in a more peaceful atmosphere on the 10th floor with an unobstructed city view.
The Oak Door, Our Dinner at Tokyo's Iconic Steakhouse
The Oak Door stands as one of Tokyo's most renowned steakhouses, combining exceptional meats, seasonal produce, and a warm setting. Located on the 6th floor of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, the restaurant welcomes guests in an elegant atmosphere where the open kitchen allows diners to admire the chefs at work. Its spectacular wine cellar displays nearly 300 New World labels, while a private dining room houses an original work by Paul Ching-Bor. From weekend brunch to dinner, including lunch or afternoon tea, The Oak Door impresses with the quality of its dishes — from the generous Tomahawk to the signature burger — and with its open terrace that extends the experience in a more relaxed spirit.
Recently redesigned by Tony Chi, the restaurant's original creator, it retains the charm of past years while adopting a more intimate and contemporary ambiance. White oak chandeliers, a new front door carved from the same wood, and the open kitchen reinforce the feeling of a living place, rooted in its stories and ready to welcome new ones. Adjacent to the main dining room, The Oak Door Bar offers a welcoming space to gather before or after the meal. Its leather alcoves, elegant drapes, and subdued atmosphere make it an ideal setting to savor a rare whisky or one of the signature cocktails, such as the Oak Fashioned or the Smokey Negroni. Together, the restaurant and its bar embody what Tony Chi describes as “the place you want to be”: a warm haven in winter, a sunny terrace in summer, and a beloved retreat all year long.
For our dinner, we chose the Steakhouse Set, a menu designed as an ascending journey where each dish prepares the palate for the next. The experience opens with the Fruit Tomato – Organic Sweet Onion, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, a deceptively simple yet incredibly elegant starter. Two halves of a fruit tomato, bright red and glistening, rest at the center of a pristine plate. Their juicy flesh reveals a natural sweetness enhanced by a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil. On top, a translucent veil of organic sweet onion adds a crunchy, subtly sweet note, while a few sprigs of chives awaken the dish with a fresh herbal nuance.
As a transition toward a more indulgent register, the Crab Cake – King Crab and Snow Crab Meat, Rémoulade Sauce arrives like a small promise of briny pleasure. Golden on the outside and tender inside, it contains a generous mix of king crab and snow crab. Beside it, a creamy and lightly tangy rémoulade awaits to be paired with the still-warm crab meat. A small salad of finely shredded cabbage brings a refreshing note that perfectly balances the dish, ideally preparing the palate for what follows.
Then comes the long-awaited moment: the Hokkaido F1 Tenderloin, the centerpiece of the menu. At the center of the plate, the tenderloin rests like a treasure, its surface marked by appetizing grill lines that promise exceptional tenderness. This outstanding meat, sourced from meticulous farming in the plains of Hokkaido, reveals an almost buttery texture. Around it, a smooth purée, deep-green creamed spinach, and a small roasted tomato create a minimal yet perfectly targeted composition. A trio of sauces — pepper, béarnaise, and chimichurri — completes the experience, allowing guests to enjoy the meat according to their mood.
To finish the dinner beautifully, the Japanese Whisky Sundae – Brown Sugar Jelly, Crumble offers a dessert that is both refined and pleasantly nostalgic. In a transparent glass lies a creamy base paired with a deep, slightly caramelized brown sugar jelly. On top, a swirl of Japanese whisky ice cream adds a woody, slightly smoky touch. A few bits of golden crumble provide a crunchy note that contrasts deliciously with the softness of the other textures. A gourmet finale, perfectly balanced, where the sophistication of whisky meets the tenderness of a sundae executed with finesse.
The Nagomi Spa, Between Serenity and Refinement
The Nagomi Spa and Fitness offers a true sanctuary of well-being. Spanning over 1,300 m², this elegant space harmoniously combines Japanese serenity with high-end facilities. Hotel guests enjoy complimentary access to the fitness center and the superb 20-meter Chinese red granite pool, complemented by a whirlpool bath and comfortable relaxation areas. The treatment facilities include four classic rooms, two “deluxe” rooms with private showers and lockers, a Vichy room, and a sumptuous couple's suite equipped with a private shower and a deep Japanese granite bath. The saunas — dry for men, dry and steam for women — invite guests to prolong their relaxation. The spa offers treatments using Kerstin Florian products, available for the first time in Japan, for a complete and refined sensory experience.
