During my London escapade a few weeks ago, I made a delicious discovery that I wanted to share with you ! And when I said “delicious” in the previous sentence, the word was not chosen by accident as this is one of the chicest grocers in the capital : I present to you Fortnum and Mason !
Known throughout the world as the Queen’s grocer since 1707, its reputation is second to none ! This brand has managed to keep the royal family as its most demanding clients before becoming popularised to a must-see place in London for food-lovers.
We were welcomed with men in tailcoats at the entrance of the famous store that is located a few steps from Piccadilly, before discovering the plush and refined atmosphere with thick carpets and old-fashioned wooden staircases.
On several floors, there is a plethora of food products of all kinds : the basement consists of fresh products with meats, fish, seafood as well as cooked platters which look absolutely divine. The ground floors is dedicated to teas, coffees, jams, biscuits, chocolates and many more … It’s difficult for a food lover like me not to fill a basket to the brim, especially since the packaging is gorgeous and tempts me to want to buy everything ! On the upper floors, there is some select men’s and women’s accessories, homeware and tableware.
One of the many advantages of Fortnum and Mason is their offering of beautiful gift hampers : this is the perfect Christmas gift, especially since they deliver to France ! So, if you relatives who love fine food, they will go crazy when they receive this gift !
There are also 5 restaurants and a wine bar, including notably the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon that offers an afternoon tea with products from the shop. I didn’t have the time to try it but the reviews I saw on the internet are very positive ! Be sure not to forget to make a reservation because it is always fully booked !
Some advice: if during your next stay in London you are walking around in the Piccadilly area, make sure that you visit this superb grocer !
