My Fabulous Stay at Lausanne Palace

Opened in 1915, this historic establishment in the center of Lausanne is a popular spot for both tourists and locals. With 140 rooms and suites, this five-star hotel caters to lovers of old-world appeal. On top of that, it offers four restaurants (one of them Michelin-starred), several bars, and an innovative and spacious spa, making Lausanne Palace one of the best luxury hotels in the region.

Located only 40 minutes outside of Geneva, Lausanne offers the excitement of a city combined with a charming natural setting, with a view overlooking Lake Geneva and the surrounding mountains. Lausanne Palace, situated in the heart of the “Olympic Capital,”fits in beautifully with this peaceful environment. It opened its doors over a century ago, in 1915, with a Belle Epoque elegance that it has maintained ever since. Inextricably linked with the city, this establishment is a rallying point for locals and tourists alike.

140 Charming Rooms and Suites

The hotel houses 140 rooms, including 44 suites of varying sizes. These are divided into categories: first off is the Business Room, which (true to its name) is perfectly adapted for short professional trips, followed by the Executive Room and the Junior Suite. I stayed in the Junior Suite with Lake View, a fantastic option for a more comfortable and luxurious stay; at 60 m², it features a contemporary interior design and a view overlooking Lake Geneva, a common theme throughout the building. Next up are the larger suites, such as the Coco Chanel, one of the most gorgeous apartments in the whole establishment. A spacious 170 m², it pays homage to one of Lausanne Palace’s most famous long-term clients. For fans of maximum comfort and period décor, it’s a dream come true!

Plenty of Dining Options with Four Restaurants

La Table d’Edgard is without a doubt the place to be at Lausanne Palace. Chef Edgard Bovier, who’s been at the helm since 2004, has been awarded a Michelin star. His gourmet restaurant features highly refined recipes that guests can explore with the Plaisir, Soleil de Méditerranée, or Signature tasting menus, or order à la carte. The Brasserie Grand Chêne, on the other hand, offers a different ambiance, displaying all of the hallmarks of a Parisian restaurant; green leather seats, waxed parquet floors, and copper accents set the tone. The Brasserie’s menu includes classic French fare such as steak tartare, sole meunière, and Burgundy escargots.

For lighter cuisine, head to the restaurant Côté Jardin, where you can enjoy Mediterranean-style dishes and sit on the terrace during the summer months. This is also where breakfast is served, and is a calm, verdant space in the heart of the city. For a less European meal, take a seat at the Sushi Zen Palace. Their mouthwatering menu offers revisited Japanese cuisine.

For a drink before or after dinner, there are numerous options: among the three bars, the most original would have to be LP’s Bar with its urban chic ambiance. Guests can take a coffee break during the day or enjoy an early-evening drink in this modern environment, with live music after sunset.

My Morning at the Spa

The spa at Lausanne Palace is the perfect place to relax, complete with an indoor pool that tempts guests to indulge in a swim or lounge about in a deckchair. Several prestigious cosmetic brands have been selected for the treatments, including the famous Swiss brand Valmont (one of my favorites, which is featured in a number of luxury hotels such as Le Meurice), to combat the effects of aging. Other brands on offer include Menard, Aveda, Phyto 5, and Chado. The spa proposes a wide range of traditional treatments, inspired by Ayurveda and other therapies from around the world. Guests who come here for a relaxation break can enjoy Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast-Asia-inspired massages. To top it all off, there’s nothing like detox cuisine from Yogi Booster to prolong the pleasure! 

The Verdict

As the city’s historic five-star hotel, Lausanne Palace is a popular destination both for local regulars and for tourists who want to explore the city and take advantage of an exclusive establishment. The gourmet dining offer is varied and of excellent quality, particularly the signature restaurant La Table d’Edgard. The spa is a wonderful place to relax and dedicate some time to your body and soul in a highly prestigious atmosphere.
