Teppanyaki MYDO: Where Design and Gastronomy Fuse

Located on the ground floor of W Osaka, Teppanyaki MYDO enchants with its bold design that combines Japanese tradition with glamorous modernity. Designed by Yasumichi Morita and the GLAMOROUS team, this luxurious space skillfully plays with light and shadow, following the concept of "in-ei reisan," a Japanese art of poetic light. A 40-meter artistic panel inspired by Shoji screens emits rhythmic lighting that evolves throughout the day, offering a calming atmosphere by day and vibrant energy by night. The glossy black materials, evoking the refined curves of a wine bottle, create elegant depth, while sculptural partitions resemble traditional "andon" lamps, filtering natural or artificial light for an enchanting effect.

The three distinct zones of MYDO – the bright White and Gold area, the mysterious Black and Silver space, and the refined private rooms – offer unique settings to fully enjoy Osaka's iconic cuisine, reimagined with creativity.

Elegance and Boldness on the Plate for a Flavorful Dinner

Our dinner at Teppanyaki MYDO began with a glass of Billecart-Salmon champagne to whet our appetites. As we soaked in the elegance of the venue, the chef, focused and meticulous, began orchestrating our MIDOU menu on the hot plate, transforming exceptional quality ingredients into true culinary masterpieces.

The first dish, a grilled salmon sushi with delicate roe, immediately impressed with its refined simplicity. The slight caramelization of the salmon offered a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a subtle smoky flavor, while the salmon roe burst in the mouth for an explosion of marine flavors. Next, the beef tongue roll, styled like a baguette, brought a bold contrast with a nod to Japanese street food. Wrapped in a thin crispy layer, the tender and flavorful beef tongue revealed a melting core that marvelously combined tradition and modernity. It was both playful and deeply satisfying.

The vegan gyozas, on the other hand, provided a delicate surprise, proving that simplicity can be as spectacular as richness. Their thin, lightly golden dough encased a subtly flavored filling, highlighting the purity and freshness of the vegetables. A light and perfectly executed option, ideal for balancing flavors. The takoyaki in Matsutake mushroom broth was a moment of culinary poetry. These small, tender, and comforting bites bathed in a dashi with deep, woody notes, capturing the very essence of Japanese autumn.

The highlight of the dinner was undoubtedly the Tokushima Mitsuboshi sirloin steak, grilled to perfection. The juicy, tender meat stood out for its intense flavor and exceptional quality. The accompanying grilled vegetables, slightly crunchy and enhanced with a subtle smokiness, perfectly complemented this dish with impeccable harmony.

Then came the Canadian lobster okonomiyaki, a dish as visually spectacular as it was delicious. The tender and delicate lobster was elevated by the soft texture of the pancake and the crunch of the garnishes. The shimmering gold leaves added a luxurious dimension, making this dish as memorable for the eyes as for the palate. The braised pork fried rice offered a comforting and convivial note. The slightly crispy rice grains paired perfectly with tender pork pieces, slow-cooked to an almost confit-like texture. It was a generous dish, bringing a comforting conclusion to the savory part of the meal.

The dessert, a truffle cream dorayaki pancake, crowned this feast with a touch of boldness and indulgence. The soft pancake perfectly paired with the richness and aromatic depth of the truffle cream. Every bite was an explosion of unexpected flavors, a perfect blend of sweet and savory that left an unforgettable impression.

My Opinion

Teppanyaki MYDO transcends the traditional dining experience by offering a true culinary and sensory spectacle. In front of the teppan grill, the chef transforms exceptional ingredients into delicious and sophisticated creations. I loved the contrast between the simple and subtle vegan gyozas and the luxurious Canadian lobster okonomiyaki adorned with shimmering gold leaf. The entire experience is elevated by a bold setting where design and art converge, creating an intimate yet spectacular atmosphere. MYDO is not just a restaurant; it's a destination where every bite tells a story, and luxury is expressed with subtlety and creativity.
