What could be better for finishing our road trip along the Côte d’Azur than spending a few days in stylish Monaco! For my stay there, I chose the Fairmont Monte Carlo, situated in the very heart of the principality, only a stone’s throw away from the legendary casino. This luxury hotel can satisfy even the most demanding guests: 602 rooms and suites, 4 restaurants and bars, a casino, a heated outdoor pool, a spa… I could go on! Check out my photo diary of the fabulous night I spent there!
Stylish Cruise Atmosphere
The Fairmont Monte Carlo was built in the 1970s, a geometrical structure located on the seashore. It was made to look like an enormous ship arriving in Monaco, with an interior design inspired by luxury cruises. We explore the impressively-sized lobby which opens onto the casino, the market gallery with its little boutiques, and two restaurants. The hotel offers 602 bedrooms and suites to its upscale and cosmopolitan clientele: I’m surprised to see the arrival of a couple in their sixties driving a brand-new (turquoise!) Rolls Royce alongside the flocks of twenty-somethings who’ve come to party at Nikki Beach, the flagship landmark in Monaco.
Guaranteed Excitement with the Formula 1 Grand Prix
It’s impossible not to mention the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which brings the streets of Monaco to life every year in May. We’re only two weeks away from the big event, and there are already security railings lining the streets. The Fairmont Monte Carlo is one of the best locations for Formula 1 fans. I should mention that the hotel has a front row seat along the famous hairpin turn, guaranteeing an exciting experience!
My Deluxe Sea View Room
Next we explore our Deluxe Sea View room. Comfortable and spacious at 35 m², it offers a private balcony with a beautiful view of the sea, allowing us to admire the yachts below. All at once we can enjoy the peacefulness of the sea while remaining close to the action in Monte Carlo. A perfect compromise! As for the bathroom, it could do with a little remodeling to keep up with current styles.
Four Bars and Restaurants: Chic, Casual, or Trendy – It’s Your Call!
The spotlight is on gastronomy, with four bars and restaurants to satisfy the culinary tastes of every guest. Here you’ll find the famous restaurant Nobu, whose internationally renowned Japanese chef is also settled in Monte Carlo. His cuisine features a mix of Japanese and South American flavors in a chic and fashionable setting. In the lobby, you can take a seat at any time of day or night at Saphir 24 to enjoy stylish bistro cuisine, all while admiring the view through the enormous glass doors.
For those looking for more action and a trendier atmosphere, head to Nikki Beach! For the fourth consecutive year, the beach is collaborating with Fairmont to welcome the most popular DJs for pool parties and theme evenings interspersed throughout the 2018 season. We take advantage of the set-up to lounge beside the pool for an afternoon, and we also spend part of an evening there to enjoy a drink before dinner. The ambiance is calm on this Monday in early May, but the crazy party scene will pick up at the height of the season.
On the 7th floor, we take a seat at the Horizon Deck & Champagne Bar. In this restaurant with an exceptional view, executive chef Philippe Joannès (a “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”) delights patrons with a menu that emphasizes Mediterranean cuisine. There are dishes from southern France as well as Italy; while I opt for the spaghetti alle vongole, my husband chooses the Angus beef fillet with a side of vegetables and potato purée. For dessert, we give in to a berry crumble and one of the chef’s pastries that has been winking at us. The setting is fantastic, making for a very pleasant evening!
I absolutely love this hotel’s location, which makes the Fairmont the ideal place to stay in Monte Carlo; it’s right next to both the legendary casino and the sea, an amazing combination. The restaurant Nobu and Nikki Beach bring a fashionable and youthful vibe, a welcome addition! Here I discovered a trendier side to Monte Carlo. The Fairmont is undeniably one of the best hotels and landmarks in the city.
- The ideal location: a stone’s throw away from the fabulous casino, with a beautiful view of the sea
- Nikki Beach: sophisticated and trendy, an excellent option for people who love parties and chilling out
- The poor soundproofing between rooms
- The rather gloomy and unmodern décor – the bathroom in particular could use remodeling
- Deluxe Sea View Room with breakfast starting at 350 €/night in early May 2018

Thank you to the Fairmont Monte Carlo for the invitation to explore their establishment. Of course, the content of this blogpost was left entirely up to me!
