Following a magnificent renovation, the most impressive in its 110-year history, the legendary Ritz Hotel in Madrid will open its doors in the summer of 2020, under the name Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid. Inaugurated in 1910, the renovation aims to enhance the facilities while maintaining its unique and original style from the original building's Belle Epoque period.
Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz was entrusted with this subtle mission to give a second life to this iconic hotel. The designers from the French agency Gilles & Boissier oversaw the interior decoration work, aimed at perfecting the establishment's enjoyment for its local and international clientele, while paying homage to the pioneering spirit of César Ritz. The smallest interior architectural details, abundant and remarkable, have been renovated while incorporating numerous precious works from the property's collection, including crystal chandeliers, ancient paintings, and sculptures.
This mythical hotel has always held a significant place in the capital and for many years was the gathering place for the rich & famous, from members of the royal family to political figures and celebrities. Ideally located in the Triangle of Art, an area defined by the city's most important museums, such as the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Reina Sofía Modern Art Museum, it is also a stone's throw from the financial and commercial center of Madrid and El Retiro Park, attracting both leisure and business clientele.
In the 153 rooms, including 53 suites, Gilles & Boissier agency has imagined a sophisticated style that is both classic but with some contemporary touches. As for the Royal Suite and Presidential Suite, they boast a magnificent view of the Prado Museum.
It was entrusted to Quique Dacosta, one of Spain's most recognized chefs, to design, develop, and oversee the five restaurants and bars of the hotel. The chef, crowned with 3 stars for his restaurant in Denia, Alicante, and 2 stars for El Poblet in Valencia, is the perfect candidate to develop the gastronomic offer of the 5-star hotel.
The signature restaurant Quique Dacosta will undoubtedly be the most famous: it will serve all meals of the day as well as the traditional Afternoon Tea under a magnificent greenhouse, symbol of the original building. Guests will also be able to dine at the Ritz Garden or toast at the Ritz Bar. Finally, the Champagne Bar will offer a constantly renewed selection of exclusive champagnes, accompanied by a menu signed by the Chef.
After a tour of the city, guests will be delighted to relax in the heated indoor pool, hydromassage pool, ambiance showers, the hammam or even the fitness center. A beauty institute will be imagined as a haven of peace and offer a wide range of local and exclusive massages and beauty treatments.
