My Stay at the Luxurious Park Hyatt Mallorca Resort

After two days in Palma, we headed to the Canyamel valley along the northeast coast. The Park Hyatt Mallorca opened here only three years ago, featuring a Mallorcan village atmosphere with its 158 rooms, as well as a locally-inspired spa, three pools, and an array of activities for guests of all ages. The resort’s restaurants and bars are the icing on the cake, with both refined and casual options. As you can guess, we spent three wonderful, relaxing days here!

A Haven of Tranquility

Welcome to Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, only a short flight from the mainland and the perfect site for an idyllic seaside vacation! In a highly exclusive part of the island only one hour away from Palma airport, the Park Hyatt brand opened its first European resort in June 2016. We left the hustle and bustle of Palma behind to explore this peaceful hotel overlooking the Canyamel valley, which has managed to escape mass tourism. Less than a mile from the sea, the Park Hyatt resort is designed to look like a traditional Mallorcan village. It’s built around a central square which combines charm and authenticity, where guests will find the lobby as well as several restaurants.

Contemporary Style in the Rooms and Suites

A labyrinth of narrow streets and staircases will take you to the 142 rooms and 16 suites, all offering a terrace with a view of the valley below or the sea in the distance. It was a thrill simply to stroll around the lovely little parks and fountains that separate the different buildings. As for the rooms and suites (which range from 50 to 150 m²), they’re all gorgeous summer holiday homes, displaying a pure, contemporary style with a few local accents here and there. We settled into the King Room with valley view, ideal for our three-day stay: eutral tones, a terrace for lounging about and admiring the view, a marble bathroom with a television integrated into the mirror, and toiletries from Bottega Veneta.

Gastronomy to Suit Every Taste

Several dining options are available around the central square. First off, there’s Voro, the Park Hyatt’s gourmet restaurant, with a menu created by the Michelin-starred chef Alvaro Salazar. Here, guests can choose from two delicious set menus with 11 to 15 courses each. The wine list to accompany this fine food is unbelievable, with more than 200 local and international references.

For traditional cuisine made with fresh, local products, head to the Balearic. With its delicious and highly varied buffet and made-to-order dishes, this restaurant is the place to be for breakfast. We went there during dinnertime to discover an excellent selection of paellas, along with numerous recipes centered around seafood.

Next up is a change of continents with the restaurant Asia, which combines Asian-inspired cuisine with Spanish products. The dishes on offer span several countries, with culinary techniques from South Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand, all served on an enchanting, tree-covered patio with a view overlooking the valley. The aptly-named Tapas Bar is the perfect place for a light dinner, perhaps with a glass of local wine alongside Spanish cheeses, omelets, and croquetas.

Plenty of Things to Do

As I noted earlier, our stay was all about rest and relaxation. So it’s hardly a surprise that I took a trip to the Serenity Spa, a wellness center with an authentic Mallorcan feel and a large range of treatments using local products such as minerals, herbs, and fruits from the island. I received my treatment in one of seven cabins, each one featuring a terrace with a splendid view of the valley, as well as a private bathroom. This relaxing refuge also includes a sauna, jacuzzi, sensory showers, and a sand bed. There’s a pool inside the spa and two others throughout the resort, but since we were there in early April we couldn’t take advantage of them!

For guests in need of something sportier, the Park Hyatt Mallorca offers several possibilities: an 18-hole golf course just 15 minutes away, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and the Cap Vermeil Country Club next to the hotel, where guests can enjoy yoga and pilates classes or even take tennis lessons. We also explored the nearby villages of Arta and Capdepera, which are absolutely adorable.

The Verdict

The Park Hyatt Mallorca is without a doubt one of the best establishments on the island: it will thrill travelers who want to spend a few days in a luxury resort with top-of-the-range facilities. Its Mallorcan village ambience and authenticity is a huge draw for visitors, as are the fabulous spa and the delicious restaurants. The rooms and suites offer optimum comfort and are the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach. This upscale resort is ideal for a seaside getaway just a stone’s throw away from the European mainland!

  • Luxurious resort with plenty of things to do. It’s hard to get bored here!
  • The spa treatment rooms offer a fantastic view of the valley
  • The high-quality breakfast features delicious and varied local products
  • The rooms’ interior design was a bit impersonal, lacked character

Practical Information

  • More information available on their website
  • Room with valley view starting at € 400 in early April 2019
