Urban Touch in Hong Kong : the Upper House

Hong Kong is a dynamic and attractive city full of luxury hotels. The famous hotel groups offer the most luxurious establishments and amongst them, there is one in the top of the list : the Upper House. At the time of writing this, it was considered as the best hotel in Hong Kong on the famous site Tripadvisor. I wondered what exactly charmed its demanding clientele and I will explain to you in detail !

There is no spa and no swimming pool where you can relax after a day of shopping, but what does it make this luxury address so successful ? It’s simple, personalities have stayed in the hotel since its opening in October 2009 (David Beckham spent a few nights this month) so what are the hidden assets for a such success ??

An perfect location

Perfectly situated on the island of HK, the Upper House is located right above the Pacific Place commercial center, one of the most renowned in the city. It is only about a ten minutes drive from the city’s main attractions which makes it the perfect location.

A unique style

You experience the place’s atmosphere as soon as you enter the lobby which is very minimalist. The decor was conceived by the designer, Andre Fu who spotlight the natural elements where for exemple bamboo is combined with stone for a very zen look. The art is everywhere and the sculptures integrate perfectly with the design for a perfect result.

Spacious rooms

What surprised me so much when I discovered the room was its size. The “studio 70” which corresponds to the standard category is the largest in Hong Kong : 68 m2 with a view over the city, a huge dressing room and a bathroom that is almost as big as the room. From the bathtub you can enjoy the panorama on the buildings. Before 2009, this establishment was a building with luxury apartments and you feel that with the size of the rooms. Three other categories are available to guests : the Studio 80 rooms, the Upper Suites and the penthouses which are real apartments at a size of 180m2, all with a decor that is elegant and refined.

A motto : the service

The Upper House offers very high end service, with its personalized check in on arrival and even the small attention to detail throughout your stay. It is also a human scale hotel, only 117 rooms which allow them to pamper their guests. Even when the hotel is full, you have the impression of being the only one in the world ! A true luxury in Hong Kong ! It is this confidentiality that attracts personalities when they pass through the city.

Very fine cuisine

In terms of gastronomie, the Café Grey located on the 49 floor, offers a spectacular view of the city and on Victoria Harbor. The menu offers European taste which is very much appreciated by the tourists staying at the hotel or by locals coming here for a business lunch or a relaxing evening.

The verdict

While it’s true that we could regret the lack of a swimming pool or a spa, here we don’t have time to train or relax as we are in an ultra dynamic city and we are looking for a perfect service in a very well-designed hotel. The experience is totally different to what the one at the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong which is less intimate but which offers everything you need, with a spa and several restaurants and bars.
