My guide for a luxury weekend in Paris

Always the famous Paris : it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and is adored by millions of tourists each year. For me, it has always been a pleasure to spend a few days in the capital. The Parisians often describe it as stressful, but I find it absolutely fantastic for an escape.

Here is my Parisian guide. In this article, I am going to suggest to you the chicest activities in the capital, those which will promise you a weekend like none other….

Stay in a luxury hotel

With around sixty 5 star hotels, Paris is filled with high end establishments. Most of them are situated in the very central 1st arrondissement, and in the 8th and the 16th arrondissement. The big names in luxury hotels are obvious but recently certain independent hotels have been offering excellent quality.

If you want to feel a little more at home, you could also think about apartment rentals : some of the most beautiful in the city will surely make you happy. Don’t hesitate to turn to the rental leader Airbnb who have a vast offering.

Dine in a Michelin-starred restaurant

With little less than a hundred Michelin-starred restaurants, you can enjoy this Parisian weekend discovering cuisine from the greatest chefs. I chose Alain Ducasse for my lunch at Meurice and I was not disappointed : in addition to perfectly presented cuisine, the best restaurants in the capital are often situated in the most magical places like, for example, the restaurant hall where I had the opportunity to lunch. One word of advice, making a reservation is strongly advised, in addition to having something elegant to wear in your suitcase (most of the time a jacket is required for gentlemen !).

Discover bistronomy

A large number of Michelin-star chefs have started less formal luxury pubs, and the concept is more casual than Michelin-star restaurants. Perfect for lunch, they offer more affordable prices and simpler cuisine than in main establishments but the manner of preparation and the cooking remains at an excellent level.

Go to the theatre

When I am in Paris, I devote at least one of my evenings to theatre to see a first class comedy show. I attended, for example, a representation of the “Cage aux folles” with Christian Clavier and Didier Bourdon, but also the famous show “Le placard” with Elie Semoun. The Parisian theaters are very beautiful and the quality of the shows is most of the time good.

Go to one of the trendiest nightclubs

Paris is also a city that never sleeps. For the partygoers amongst you, why not visit one of the more mythical establishments like chez Castel, Les Bains or the Silencio to name just a few.

Go shopping in the big stores

Paris is the capital of fashion: the reputation of the Parisians is incomparable. It is in this context that you can really find some exquisite pieces. For those who are not really sure which brand is best, I would advise visiting the large stores such as Galeries Lafayette, le Printemps or even Bon Marché. For others, try the designers stores in Marais or even the ones in Saint Germain des Près. Everything also depends on your taste and your shopping budget !

Go to a museum

Since the weather in Paris is not always great, this is a good excuse to take a few hours’ refuge in a museum ! Depending on your taste, choose one that inspires you but don’t forget to consult the temporary exhibition program which can be really great !
The 3 must-sees that I can suggest are :
– The Louvre : for those who have a lot of patience for queues and who like looking at the thousands of art works it has to offer. An unequalled museum to visit several times, it is so big !
– The musée d’Orsay : For its unique atmosphere in an old renovated station and its sublime collections.
– The Pompidou center : for the amateur contemporary art

Enjoy pastries

Ah Paris !!! It is difficult to resist temptation in the capital’s streets … the largest bakeries, chocolate makers, ice cream parlors and every so often I pass a shop on the street corner which tempts me even more !!
I can, for instance, confess my adoration for Pierre Hermé’s macarons (which I have discussed in this article), for teas and other delicacies from Chez Mariages Frères, but also for chocolates by Manufacture Alain Ducasse or Jean Paul Hévin. It is difficult to describe to you all my sweet tooth cravings, it’s really a challenge for me to discover new ones on each adventure.

My favorite in the Mariage Frères tea house : the crème brulée tart and wild strawberries !

An afternoon tea in the Georges V, so delicious !

Simply go for a walk

If the weather is good, venture out on foot in the various quarters to soak up the Parisian life. Going out on a boat on the Seine is ideal for observing the Hausmann architecture (I advise you do it in low season when there are not a lot of people and when you can have some sunny weather). For more fun, opt for a 4L ride in the city :I have never had the opportunity but am really tempted by it.
