During my stay in Paris this past August, I had the chance to discover some of the city’s most intimate 5-star establishments. Le Burgundy fits in completely with this category, featuring only 59 rooms and attracting fans of small, human-scale establishments. It of course offers all of the same amenities as the largest luxury hotels: a super-central location, a Michelin-starred restaurant, a spa with a 15-meter pool, and a trendy bar. More on my Parisian experience below!
A Dream Location
The address is irresistible, located only a stone’s throw from Place Vendôme, rue Saint-Honoré, and Place de la Madeleine, in the very heart of Paris. It’s perfect for visiting the city on foot: you can go shopping at the luxury boutiques nearby, or enjoy a cultural experience at the Louvre only 15 minutes away… the list goes on!
Only 59 Keys for a Private Experience
Inaugurated in 1850, Le Burgundy recently underwent a long renovation, opening again in 2010. Today it features a revitalized look that I found completely charming, and I’m not the only one! There’s no bling around here, but rather hotel regulars who return each time they’re in Paris. Without a doubt, Le Burgundy’s strong suit is the privacy it offers, something that few Parisian hotels can provide. With only 59 rooms and suites featuring a contemporary look, the intimate ‘boutique hotel’ setting is immediately apparent.
The different room categories include Classic, Superior, Deluxe, and Junior Suite, as well as eight Signature suites which are veritable Parisian apartments. I had the pleasure of staying in the stylish and impeccably comfortable Malesherbes Suite, spread over 45 m² and on two floors. The first floor featured a living area while the bedroom was upstairs. I absolutely loved the little objects left here and there, bringing the room a more personal and intimate ambiance and helping us feel at home.
Contemporary Art in the Heart of the Hotel
Unlike many Parisian luxury hotels, such as Le Bristol or Le Crillon where I’ve stayed in the past, Le Burgundy has opted for the contemporary look. The establishment is punctuated by several artworks, including a monumental sculpture by Guy de Rougemont standing majestically in the solarium. Speaking of which, the solarium is my absolute favorite feature: the central room of the hotel, it also acts as a meeting point for enjoying a coffee or the establishment’s famous tea-time, which takes place every afternoon. The décor bathed in natural light with a smattering of colorful armchairs has become the emblem of this little Parisian paradise, and I personally was completely enchanted.
Like all of the most respected 5-star establishments in Paris, Le Burgundy is also a hotspot for gastronomy: here, it’s the restaurant Le Baudelaire that’s a favorite among Parisians and hotel guests alike. In a subdued ambiance, chef Guillaume Goupil dazzles restaurant-goers with modern French cuisine, and has most notably been awarded a Michelin star. I didn’t have the opportunity to test his creations, but he has drawn rave reviews.
As for the bar, Le Burgundy gave it a facelift over the summer to start fresh in the fall. Since September, it has featured an eclectic décor that pays tribute to the poet Baudelaire. In this gem of a location, guests can enjoy dishes from a menu that changes over the course of a day: a healthy breakfast, lunch with neo-bistro cuisine, an afternoon snack featuring pastries from chef Pascal Hainigue, and of course delicious cocktails in the evening.
The Sothys Spa
The following morning, I headed to the 250 m² spa! Here guests will find a wellness center perfect for relaxing: a sauna, a steam room, and even a 15-meter pool for doing a few breaststrokes. The spa also offers a wide range of treatments featuring products from the brand Sothys which are administered in one of the two treatment rooms (including one double-room). From the Sothys Athletics treatment category, I chose a nutri-relax massage, inspired by Deep Tissue techniques, which helped me to completely unwind. I picked up a few products from the brand while I was there and have since added them to my beauty routine.
Le Burgundy will surely be a hit with lovers of intimate luxury establishments. It’s a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the biggest hotels in the French capital, offering instead a human-scale ambiance. What’s more, Le Burgundy’s ideal location and its many amenities give it the status of a Parisian 5-star establishment. As for the rooms, they’re sure to please aficionados of a more modern (yet warm and welcoming) look. An important Parisian pied-à-terre for connoisseurs!
