Hôtel Grand Powers: The New Parisian Chic

(© Grand Powers)

Freshly opened at the beginning of this year, the Hôtel Grand Powers has already worked its way up to the top of the list of Paris’s best boutique hotels. After exploring a number of Parisian luxury hotels (Le Meurice, Le Bristol…), I decided it was time to visit one of the city’s most exclusive five-star establishments, with only a handful of rooms and suites! Come with me to learn more about this charming hotel, featuring the perfect location, a fantastic renovation, and impeccable service!

A Central Location

In the heart of the “Golden Triangle” at the intersection of the Rue Francois 1er and the Rue Pierre Charon, this historic building was recently transformed into Paris’s most recent (and much talked-of) five-star addition, freshly opened at the beginning of 2019. In terms of location, the Grand Powers is ideal for French tourists as well as visitors from around the world; the Avenue Montaigne, with its luxury shopping, lies to one side, and the Champs-Elysées to the other.

Parisian Soul

Behind a beautiful Haussmann-style façade, this gem of a hotel is the perfect finishing touch to Paris’s luxury hospitality offering. This five-star residence displays a perfect mix of history and modern comfort thanks to the combined efforts of architect Bastie-Behzadi and interior designer Cathy Crinon, who managed to preserve the building’s Parisian soul while giving it a unique style. The décor takes its cues from Italian and Anglo-Saxon design, with velvet armchairs and distinct curtains in the rooms and suites. As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a young and dynamic team which bent over backwards to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The concierges had plenty of suggestions, contributing to the boutique hotel feeling while meeting the best in luxury hospitality standards.

Strong yet Elegant Design in a Handful of Rooms

The 50 rooms and suites, spread out over six floors, feature a gentle, subdued ambiance punctuated by bright accents, either in dusky pink, celadon green, or blue depending on the floor. There are chic Parisian elements everywhere, including crown molding and fireplaces, much to my delight! As for the furniture, specially designed for the hotel, it harkens back to last century’s design and emphasizes fine materials such as beautiful lacquers, aged brass, marble, oak, and walnut wood. There’s plenty of cutting-edge modern comforts as well, such as the televisions integrated into the classical-style mirrors (so as not to disrupt the overall aesthetic).

For a stay of a few nights, we opted for the Junior Suite with its living room, office section, and bedroom, all included in a space of 33 to 48 m². I was a huge fan of the interior design, which combines contemporary elements with Art Deco style and 1930s-era accents. An Exclusive Spa with Divine Treatments

To top off this five-star, there’s nothing like an urban spa completely covered in marble; this haven of relaxation includes a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and treatment room, as well as a fitness room with Technogym equipment. The treatments administered feature products from the American brand Dermalogica (a first for me!), which are tailored to suit different skin types. My facial began with a careful analysis of my skin to determine which products were best for me. The signature Proskin 60 treatment was just divine, and I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional quality – worthy of the best palaces! The therapist also gave me advice for my personal skincare regime, which I certainly appreciated!

Café 52: Modern and Healthy Cuisine

The Café 52 offers “refined snacking” cuisine, with healthy and seasonal recipes designed by chef Maxime Raab. The menu includes classics of French gastronomy as well as more original dishes. We began our dinner with a burrata and tomatoes, followed by cod with green asparagus, eggplant caviar, and sauce vierge – two resolutely healthy and modern dishes. For dessert, the Grand Powers has selected Christophe Michalak as its pastry chef, and I can confirm that his creations are just delicious! The Café features a welcoming ambiance with warm colors alongside floral patterns, perfect for lunch, dinner, or just a cocktail with some finger food.

At breakfast time, originality is again front and center with teas by Mariage Frères (which deserves to be emphasized, as I’m a huge tea fan!), fresh fruit juices, freshly-baked croissants, and eggs made to order. Christophe Michalak’s pastries also make an appearance with his terribly addictive choco-praline fondant.

The Verdict

The Grand Powers is the most recent addition to Paris’s range or luxury hotels. I immediately fell in love with its bold style and unique decoration, which enhances the richness of this Haussmann-era building and is truly original! I also enjoyed the exclusive, highly personalized service as well as the spa, which, while small, proposes absolutely divine treatments. As for the Café 52, we loved the trendy, healthy cuisine on offer, starting in the early hours of the day. This five-star boutique hotel has undeniable charm and meets the highest standards in luxury services!

I loved:

  • Lovely style: gorgeous renovation which preserved many antique elements and combined them with modern elements
  • Excellent service, with a young, dynamic, and attentive team
  • Very high-quality facial at the spa

I disliked:

  • A few unimportant details here and there – very good overall!
