Phuket is one of Thailand’s top destinations, and it’s in this world of leisure and exoticism that I discovered the hotel Twinpalms: a superb establishment with a lush atmosphere (and a member of Small Luxury Hotels in the World)! Welcome to a place of relaxation and refinement!
During my winter holiday travels through Thailand, I treated myself to a short getaway on the island of Phuket. I went to the Twinpalms, a 5-star hotel only a stone’s throw away from the Surin beach. It’s well sheltered from the crowds in Pa Tong, a famous city well-known for go-go bars and mass tourism. Situated only 30 minutes from the airport, this establishment is nothing less than idyllic!
As soon as I arrive in the enormous lobby, I’m greeted by the personnel for my check-in while I enjoy a welcome cocktail. I head to one of the hotel’s 97 rooms, though looking at it the hotel seems much smaller. Mine is a “Grand Deluxe Lagoon Pool Room,” but it’s possible to stay in suites with one or two rooms, and even villas with a private pool! Perfect for a trip with friends or family!
The room is very spacious, with a terrace overlooking the central pool, and a bathroom with large bay windows looking out on the back entrance. The view of the pool is simply spectacular; who’s never dreamed of opening the curtains to hear birds singing while gazing at a tropical garden?
As for the beach, it’s situated about 100 meters from the hotel, though unfortunately there’s no direct access. I should mention that earlier in the year, Thailand cleaned up its beaches and it’s now impossible for hotels such as the Twinpalms to set up deckchairs for their guests. I can’t comment on whether it’s a good or bad thing—in any case, the photos that I had seen do not reflect the reality in late 2014.
The service here is highly personalized. About thirty minutes after my arrival, a member of the staff comes to ask me to choose a type of pillow, a fragrance for my room, and a flower arrangement that they’ll set up in my room later in the day! I’m very impressed by this special attention, which sets this establishment apart from others. It’s exactly the kind of service that you can expect from a luxury hotel.
Another unique feature: Every afternoon between 3 and 4 pm, guests can taste tropical fruits that have been specially prepared for them! Perfect for a healthy snack!
8 pm: Time for Dinner
In terms of restauration, several options are available: the Oriental Spoon, the beach clubs Catch and Bimi, and the pool bar for those who’d like to eat alongside the water! The Catch is ideal for a drink at the beginning of the evening, or for dinner in an ambiance lounge—it offers a nice atmosphere without falling into a club style!
On top of these services, there’s also a fitness room, a spa by Esthederm Sun and a concierge who is only too happy to help you plan your excursions! My brief passage through this oasis of refinement was unfortunately too short for me to test the spa or fitness room!
Starting the Day off Right
After a sound night of sleep, I check out the breakfast buffet: a large variety of continental but also Asian products are on offer, all of good quality. A small drawback as concerns the ambiance: it’s something of an assembly line. Here you realize that there are many guests in the hotel, and that the feeling of tranquility that you get in your room is no longer present in the dining room!
- To go to Phuket, you can take a long-distance flight (for example Paris-Bangkok), and then a 1.5 hour flight will take you to Thailand’s largest island.
- Prices at the Twinpalms: at the height of the season (Winter holiday vacation), plan on around 250 €/night with breakfast included for a Grand Deluxe Lagoon Pool room. Reserve your room with Booking.com.
